Climate Change Clients

Baker & McKenzie's Climate Change lawyers work with and act on behalf of the leaders in the global carbon market, including:

Governments and International Organizations
Our team has taken a leading role in working with governments and international organizations to shape climate change law and policy.  We have advised the European Union (EU) on the establishment of the
EU Emission Trading Scheme (EUETS)  registry and the development of CDM projects in Southern Africa; are advising national and state governments on the development of emissions trading frameworks and carbon procurement facilities; advising governments in Asia, Latin America, Southern Africa and Europe on the establishment and operation of CDM and JI frameworks; assisted IETA with the development of carbon contracts and recently have drafted the Legal Guidebook to the CDM for the United Nations Environment Program.

Multilaterals
We serve as the lead legal counsel to the World Bank's Carbon Finance Business and represent the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Corporations and Financial Institutions
Central to our practice is the legal, policy and strategic advice we give to our corporate clients including domestic and multi-national corporations, financial and insurance institutions and project developers. Many of these clients are recognized market leaders undertaking leading initiatives and transactions in the climate change area.
