US Homeland Security Practice
The events of September 11, 2001, have changed the business environment and introduced new challenges for companies in the areas of corporate security, legal compliance, information security, supply chain integrity, international trade, immigration and employment. The creation of a new Department of Homeland Security in the United States brought together US government agencies that have had vastly different approaches to the business community in the past and united them under an umbrella organization with the common goal of protecting the nation.
In addition, many other executive branch and independent regulatory agencies have already changed or will soon change their rules and regulations to address concerns over security and the requirements of recent homeland security legislation. Companies will have to adopt new internal procedures and policies to comply with these new US laws and regulations.
Baker & McKenzie, one of the world's largest law firms with over 3,000 attorneys in more than 60 offices in more than 30 countries, can assist clients in meeting these challenges and helping to provide a safe and secure environment for their customers and business associates.
In order to assist clients in adapting to the changing environment of homeland security, Baker & McKenzie in the US has created the US Homeland Security Practice, a multidisciplinary practice that draws on our lawyers who practice in a wide variety of areas. Many of them have served in senior government positions or are recognized leaders in their fields.
The practice helps companies understand homeland security and what it means, in concrete terms, for their operations. This includes not only complying with a myriad of new laws and regulations designed to ensure homeland security, but also tapping into resources, such as government grants and funding from the new Department of Homeland Security that may be available to assist a company with its security initiatives.
